As leaked in the previous post 2020 Christmas costume for my toddler daughter includes crochet baby Santa hat and Santa skirt. The skirt has a special waistline tie to hold it tight no matter how many jumps and runs your baby is planning to make 🙂 The skirt sits well on my daughter and made her want to pose for a photo shot which is quite rare. Crochet materials and tools:
<> Crochet hook 5 mm
<> Red Heart, Super Saver (4) –100% acrylic, 198 grams -333 m per skein.
Red – color A.
White – color B.
Crochet baby Santa skirt size:
Age: 2-3 years
Waist : 52 cm (Measure belly as it is the widest baby’s part)
Length: 24 cm
Gauge: 14 dc -10 cm
Common abbreviations of crochet stitches:
ch – chain
yo – tarn over
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc –half double crochet
hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only
dc –double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
Baby crochet Santa skirt pattern:
Row 1: With color A, ch 6, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch, turn. (5 hdc in total).
Row 2: Ch1, hdc, hdc blo 3, hdc, turn. Work first and the very last stitch through both loops, other stitches work back loop only.
Repeat Row 2 until your belt reaches desired length. In my case 52 cm.
Join 2 edges with sl st.
At this point we start crocheting in the round. Turn the skirt the right side out.
Round 1: ch2, *1 dc, 2 dc repeat from *. (work in the end of each row as well as in the center of each chain), sl st in the 2d ch of ch-2. Ch2, turn
Rounds 2-10: dc into each st of previous round, sl st in the 2d ch of ch-2.
Round 11: with color B, ch2, *1 dc, 2 dc repeat from, sl st in the 2d ch of ch-2. Ch2, turn.
Rounds 12-13: dc into each st of previous round, sl st in the 2d ch of ch-2.
Cut the yarn and weave in ends.
For the waist tie you can make ch 50-70 or make the one I was showing in the video tutorial.
Keep the seam of the skirt to the side and weave in the waist tie.
