Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
st(s) – stitch(es)
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
k2togb – knit two together through the back loop
C1/2/1B – cable 1/2/1 back: Slip the next stitch onto an extra needle and hold it to the back. Knit 2 stitches from the left-hand needle, then knit the slipped stitch from the extra needle.
C2/1/2F – cable 2/1/2 front: Slip the next 2 stitches onto an extra needle and hold it to the front. Knit 1 from the left-hand needle, then knit 2 slipped stitches from the extra needle.
Lace knots stitch knitting pattern:
To begin, cast on any number that is a multiple of 6 sts, plus 2 extra stitches, plus 2 selvage stitches.
Optionally, you can rib for 3-5 rows using the k1, p1 pattern.
Row 1: sel s, [k2, p4] – repeat till the end, k2, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, p2, [k4, p2] – repeat till the end, sel s.
Row 3: Repeat Row 1.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: sel s, [Count the bars between the following two stitches. Insert the right-hand needle underneath the 4th bar and draw up a long loop. Place the loop onto the left-hand needle, turning it so that the front part of the loop becomes the back part. Knit this loop and the next stitch together through the back loop. Insert the right-hand needle into the same space and draw up a second loop. Place it again onto the left-hand needle and knit two together through the back loop. P4] – repeat till the end. When you have the last 3 stitches: count the bars between the following two stitches. Insert the right-hand needle underneath the 4th bar and draw up a long loop. Place the loop onto the left-hand needle, turning it so that the front part of the loop becomes the back part. Knit this loop and the next stitch together through the back loop. Insert the right-hand needle into the same space and draw up a second loop. Place it again onto the left-hand needle and knit two together through the back loop, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, k1, [C1/2/1B, C2/1/2F] – repeat till the end, k1, sel s.
Row 7: sel s, p3, [k2, p4] – repeat till the end, k2, p3, sel s.
Row 8: sel s, k3, [p2, k4] – repeat till the end, p2, k3, sel s.
Row 9: Repeat Row 7.
Row 10: Repeat Row 8.
Row 11: sel s, p3, [Count the bars between the following two stitches. Insert the right-hand needle underneath the 4th bar and draw up a long loop. Place the loop onto the left-hand needle, turning it so that the front part of the loop becomes the back part. Knit this loop and the next stitch together through the back loop. Insert the right-hand needle into the same space and draw up a second loop. Place it again onto the left-hand needle and knit two together through the back loop. P4.] – repeat till the end. When you have the last 5 stitches: count the bars between the following two stitches. Insert the right-hand needle underneath the 4th bar and draw up a long loop. Row 12: sel s, k1, [C2/1/2F, C1/2/1B] – repeat till the end, k1, sel s.
Repeat Rows 1-12 to form the pattern.
