Knitting tools and materials:

<> Circular (29” or 26”) knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4) for ribbing part and 4 mm (US 6 / UK 8) for main part or size needed to obtain the gauge.
<> Yarn – Super Corfou: 100% acrylic. 40 g – 95m. Weight Category – 4. If you have difficulty to find the aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 170-175 m (180 yards) per 100 grams skein.
<> Cable needle, crochet hook, 4-7 buttons, tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting, scissors, stitch markers, scrap yarn or stitch holders.

Gauge: 16-17 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

Cable 6 Back (C6B): Slip 3 stitches to cn and hold in back of work, k3 from the LHN, k3 from cn

Cable 6 Front (C6F): Slip 3 stitches to cn and hold in front of work, k3 from the LHN, k3 from cn

Cable 6 Purl Back (C6PB): Slip 3 stitches to cn and hold in back of work, k3 from the LHN, p3 from cn

Cable 6 Purl Front (C6PF): Slip 3 stitches to cn and hold in front of work, p3 from the LHN, k3 from cn

4/3 RT (4/3 right twist): Slip 4 stitches to cn and hold in back of work, k3 from the LHN, p1, k3 from cn

1/3 RT (1/3 right twist): Slip 1 stitch to cn and hold in back of work, k3 from the LHN, p1 from cn

3/1 LT (3/1 left twist): Slip 3 stitches to cn and hold in front of work, p1 from the LHN, k3 from cn

yo: yarn over – Lay the working yarn over the right needle from front to back.

k2tog – knit two together

kfb – knit front and back loop: make a knit stitch and don’t slide it off the left-hand needle, then knit into the back of the same stitch on the left hand needle, slide the stitch off the left-hand needle. You have just increased one stitch.

skpo: Slip, Knit, Pass Over – Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done

Row 1: k3, p4, k3, p1, k3, p4, k3.

Row 2: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Row 3: 3/1 LT, p3, k3, p1, k3, p3, 1/3 RT.

Row 4: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Row 5: p1, C6F, 4/3 RT, C6B, p1.

Row 6: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Row 7: 1/3 RT, C6PF, p1, C6PB, 3/1 LT

Row 8: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Row 9: k3, p4, 4/3 RT, p4, k3.

Row 10: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Rows 11, 13, 15: k3, p4, k3, p1, k3, p4, k3.

Right leg ribbing:

Work in the round.

Using 3.5 mm knitting needles and long tail cast on method, cast on 34 sts and rib k1, p1 for 14 rounds. If you want to fold cuffs, knit ribbing part a little bit longer.

Changing to 4 mm knitting needles.

Rounds 15: knit all stitches around and add evenly 12 sts (for all size). Use any increase method you know and like. I did kfb – knit front and back loop increase.

Right leg main part:

Round 1: k3, p1, Aran row 1 (21 sts), p1, k 20.

Round 2: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Round 3: k3, p1, Aran row 3 (21 sts), p1, k 20.

Round 4: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Round 5: k3, p1, Aran row 5 (21 sts), p1, k 20.

Round 6: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Knit in total 26 rounds, changing only Aran part. Start repeating Aran from Round 18. Do not cut the working yarn!!!

Left leg ribbing:

Repeat ribbing and increases as for the right leg.

Left leg main part:

Round 1: k 20, p1, Aran row 1 (21 sts), p1, k3.

Round 2: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Round 3: k 20, p1, Aran row 3 (21 sts), p1, k3.

Round 4: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Round 5: k 20, p1, Aran row 5 (21 sts), p1, k3.

Round 6: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Knit in total 26 rounds, changing only Aran part. Start repeating Aran from Round 18. Cut the yarn leaving 30-40 cm tail.

Body Part:

Using waste yarn and hook, chain 10 and cut the yarn. Crochet 2 identical chains.

Round 1: At this point we are going to join two legs. Work all stitches of the right leg (always keep in mind what Aran row number is going after for your size), take the first chain and pick up 6 sts through back ridges, work all stitches of the left leg, pm that will indicate beginning of the row.

Round 2: Take the second chain and pick up 6 sts though back ridges. Knit the knits and purl the purls. Also knit all stitches that you picked up from chains.

Knit in total 11 rounds. All even rounds: knit the knits and purl the purls.

From this point start knitting in rows.

Now every row will have 2 selvage stitches – at the beginning and at the end.

Cast on 6 stitches to the right-hand needle for the buttonhole band. Turn work.

Row 1 (WS): sel s, k5, knit the knits and purl the purls, k5, sel s. Only in this row you can knit first stitch instead of slipping it. Turn work.

Row 2 (RS): sel s, k5, [work according to the required aran row], k5, sel s. Turn.

Row 3: sel s, k5, knit the knits and purl the purls, k5, sel s. Turn.

Buttonhole band (1 sel s + 5 sts at the beginning and 5 sts + 1sel s at the end) will be knitted always in garter stitch. It means we will always knit that 5 sts on the right side and on the wrong side.

Row 4: (with buttonhole): sel s, k2, yo, k2tog, k1 [work according to the required aran row], k5, sel s.

Row 5: sel s, k5, knit the knits and purl the purls, k5, sel s. Knit yo stitch through the front loop.

Make buttonholes after every 16 rows.

Knit in total 37 rows.

110 stitches on the needles.

Armholes:

Age 0-3

months

Right front part 34
Back part 42
Left front part 34

Work front and back pieces separately. Each left front piece and right front piece has 34 stitches.

Right front piece:

Row 38: knit only right front part for 24 rows. Do not cut the yarn, we will use it later to knit a hood.

Back piece:

Attach new yarn.

Row 38: knit only back part for 24 rows. Cut the yarn leaving 30-40 cm tail.

Left front piece:

Attach new yarn.

Row 38: knit only left front part for 24 rows. Cut the yarn leaving 30-40 cm tail.

Shoulders seam and hood

Using Kitchener stitch graft 12 sts of each shoulder. (Video tutorial 1:01:13)

After that start knitting the hood. The main part of the hood will be done in stockinette stitch, except of buttonhole band at the beginning and at the end. As before they will be worked in garter stitch.

62 sts on the needles.

In the first row, to get rid of holes between back and front parts, pick up 5 sts for each side.

72 sts on the needles.

Knit in total 36 rows.

Row 37: sel s, k 32, k2tog, k2, skpo, k 32, sel s.

Row 38: sel s, k5, purl all stitches, k5, sel s.

Row 39: sel s, k 31, k2tog, k2, skpo, k 31, se l.

Row 40: sel s, k5, purl all stitches, k5, sel s.

Row 41: sel s, k 30, k2tog, k2, skpo, k 30, sel s.

Row 42: sel s, k5, purl all stitches, k5, sel s.

Divide all hood sts in half and graft all stitches using Kitchener stitch. (Video tutorial: (1:22:16)

Sleeves:

Make two. Work in the round.

Using 4 mm knitting needles, pick up 32 sts around the armhole. Work in stockinette stitch 28 rounds. In the round before ribbing part make 6 decreases. Change needles to the smaller size and work rib k1, p1 – 12 rows. Bind off all stitches.

Return to the gusset where we picked up stitches from chains. Unravel chains and get live stitches back onto the needle. Using Kitchener stitch graft all stitches and sew holes nearby. (Video tutorial: 1:42:53). After that sew left buttonhole band underneath right one.

Sew on buttons and weave in all ends.
