Knitting the cuff of the flat hand warmers:

Using color A and 3 mm knitting needles, cast on 40 stitches for the mitten.

Row 1: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 2 (RS): sel s, [p1, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 3: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 4 (RS): sel s, [p1, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 5: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Do not cut the yarn. Change yarn color from A to B. In the next round, when you change color, always knit the first stitch instead of slipping it. Doing it this way you will not have jogs when you start seaming up socks.

Row 6 (RS): k1, [p1, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 7: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 9: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Change yarn color from B to A.

Row 10 (RS): k1, [p1, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 11: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 12 (RS): sel s, [p1, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Row 13: sel s, [p1, k1] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Repeat Rows 6-13, and after that repeat Rows 6-9 again. Change yarn color every 4 rows when you knit ribbing. At this point my ribbing measures 8 cm.

Switch to 3.5 mm knitting needles. Divide all stitches in half and place two stitch markers. To make the mitten fit better, we need to decrease 4 stitches.

Go on making increases and knitting the central part in ribbing until you get 17 stitches between stitch markers, or the total number will be equal 18+17+18=53 sts.

Now we will knit only the central part. Take a new tail (white color). Knit in ribbing only central 17 stitches for 8 rows. You do not need to change color here. Bind of central stitches. Cut the yarn leaving 15-20 cm tail.

Return to the beginning.

With color B:

Next Row: knit all stitches, sel s. (here we join front and the back part)

Next Row: sel, s purl all stitches, sel s.

Change yarn color from B to A and knit 2 more rows in stockinette stitch. My mitten measures now 16 cm.

Switch back to 3 mm knitting needle.
