Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
yo – yarn over
st(s) – stitch(es)
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
k2tog tbl – knit two together through the back loop.
Knit blanket stitch pattern:
Cast on a multiple of 10, plus 2 selvage stitches. For example 22 sts.
Ribbing (3-5 rows):
sel s, [k1, p1] – repeat across, sel s.
Row 1: sel s, *k6, [skip next 2 sts, insert the right needle between the 2nd skipped st and the next st, yo and draw up a long loop, then knit the 2 skipped sts together through the back loop] twice — repeat from * across, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, *k5, [skip next 2 sts, insert the right needle between the 2nd skipped st and the next st, yo and draw up a long loop, then knit the 2 skipped sts together through the back loop] twice, p1 — repeat from * across, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, *k4, [skip next 2 sts, insert the right needle between the 2nd skipped st and the next st, yo and draw up a long loop, then knit the 2 skipped sts together through the back loop] twice, p2 — repeat from * across, sel s.
