Knitting materials and tools:
Double-pointed knitting needles 5 mm (US 6/UK 8). You can use circular needles (80 cm) and the magic loop method.
Lion Brand, Color Made Easy –100% acrylic. Color of your choice.
Weight Category – 5. Quantity – less than 1 ball. If you have difficulty finding the aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 100 m (110 yards) per 100 grams skein.
Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch marker, waste yarn.
Knit mittens size:
Size: child (4-6 yo)
Gauge: 14 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
K2tog – knit two together
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
M1L – make one left increase: pick up the bar between the current and next stitch bringing the left-hand needle from the front to the back, then knit the bar through the back loop.

Knitting the cuff:
Cast on 22 sts. Join to knit in the round. Pm if needed. Rib k1, p1 for 13 rounds or 6.5-7 cm.
Knitting right mitten:
Round 14: knit all stitches around.
Round 15: p22, M1L. (23 sts)
Round 16: k23, M1L. (24 sts)
Round 17: p22, k2, M1L. (25 sts)
Round 18: knit all stitches. (25 sts)
Round 19: p22, k3, M1L. (26 sts)
Round 20: knit all stitches. (26 sts)
Round 21: p22, k4, M1L. (27 sts)
Round 22: knit all stitches (27 sts).
Round 23: p22, k5, M1L. (28 sts)
Round 24: knit all stitches (28 sts).
Round 25: p22, k6, M1L. (29 sts)
Round 26: knit all stitches (29 sts).
Round 27: p22, k7, M1L. (30 sts)
Round 28: knit all stitches (30 sts).
Round 29: p22, k8, M1L. (31 sts)
Round 30: knit all stitches (31 sts).
Round 31: p22, k9, M1L. (32 sts)
Round 32: knit all stitches (32 sts).
Round 33: Place the 10 knit stitches that were added previously onto the scrap yarn, p22.
Round 34: k22.
Round 35: p22.
Repeat Rounds 34-35 until the mitten covers the tip of a little finger. At this stage mitten measures 18 cm from the edge or 11 cm from the ribbing
Shaping top of the mitten:
Round 1: [skpo, k7, k2tog] – twice. (18 sts)
Round 2: purl all stitches. (18 sts)
Round 3: [skpo, k5, k2tog] – twice. (14 sts)
Round 4: purl all stitches. (14 sts)
Round 5: [skpo, k3, k2tog] – twice. (10 sts)
Round 6: purl all stitches. (10 sts)
Round 7: [skpo, k1, k2tog] – twice. (6 sts)
Cut the yarn, leaving a 10 cm tail. Thread the tail through the remaining 6 stitches, pull it tight, and secure it on the inside.
Knitting thumb gusset:
Retrieve 10 stitches from the scrap yarn onto 2 DPN. Leave a tail before joining. Knit in rounds.
Round 1: k10.
Repeat Round 1 until the thumb reaches the tip of your thumb.
Begin with decreases rounds:
Round 1: [skpo, k1, k2tog] – twice. (6 sts)
Cut the yarn, leaving a 10 cm tail. Thread the tail through the remaining 6 stitches, pull it tight, and secure it on the inside.
Sew the gap in the thumb gusset using tail that were left earlier. Weave in all ends.
Knitting left mitten:
Repeat Rounds 1-14 as you did for the right mitten.
Round 15: M1L, purl all other stitches. (23 sts)
Round 16: M1L, knit all other stitches. (24 sts)
Round 17: M1L, k2, purl all other stitches. (25 sts)
Round 18: knit all stitches. (25 sts)
Round 19: M1L, k3, purl all other stitches. (26 sts)
Round 20: knit all stitches. (26 sts)
Round 21: M1L, k4, purl all other stitches. (27 sts)
Round 22: knit all stitches (27 sts).
Round 23: M1L, k5, purl all other stitches. (28 sts)
Round 24: knit all stitches (28 sts).
Round 25: M1L, k6, purl all other stitches. (29 sts)
Round 26: knit all stitches (29 sts).
Round 27: M1L, k7, purl all other stitches. (30 sts)
Round 28: knit all stitches (30 sts).
Round 29: M1L, k8, purl all other stitches. (31 sts)
Round 30: knit all stitches (31 sts).
Round 31: M1L, k9, purl all other stitches. (32 sts)
Round 32: knit all stitches (32 sts).
All subsequent rounds and the gusset section will be executed similarly for the right mitten.
