Knitting collar for baby cardigan:
Before knitting the cardigan, I will show you short calculations that you can use for calculation other sizes.
Neck circumference: 30 cm (I have found this data in internet)
Gauge: 18 stitches in = 10 cm
1.8 sts = 1 cm
30*1.8=54 sts
Collar width – 5 cm (for the size less than 6 months = 4 cm)
5 *1.8 = 9 sts (we will add 9 stitches from one side and 9 sts from another side)
N(total number of sts) = 54 + 9 + 9 +2 sel s = 74 sts.
Using long tail cast on method, cast on 74 stitches.
Row 1: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, [yo, skpo] – repeat till the end, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 7: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 8: In this row we will join first and the last rows. Take extra needle and pick loops of the first row. Pick up the first 15 sts. Do not forget about salvage stitches. Check video for more instructions. Fold the piece right side out. Slip the first stitch (knitwise) from the left-hand needle, then knit the first stitch from the extra needle, after that pass slipped stitch over the knit one. *Slip next stitch (knitwise) from the left-hand needle, then knit next stitch from the extra needle, after that pass slipped stitch over the knit one. Repeat from * till the end.
Row 9: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
According to the calculations, you need to count 9 +1 sel s = 10 sts from one side and pm and repeat the same for the other side. I decided to make collar a little bit wider, so I counted 11 sts from one side and pm and did the same for the other side. At this point we will knit short rows.
