Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
k2tog – knit two together
yo – yarn over
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
Lace basketweave stitch knitting pattern:
Cast on a multiple of 8, plus 1 extra stitch and 2 selvage stitches. For example 43 sts.
Row 1: sel s, [p3, k3, p2] – repeat till the end as many times as needed across the row, p1, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, repeat [k3, p3, k2] across, k1, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, repeat [p3, k3, p2] across, p1, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, repeat [k3, p3, k2] across, k1, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, repeat [k2, yo, k2tog, k1, skpo, yo, k1] across, k1, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s. Purl yo stitch through the front loop.
Row 7: sel s, repeat [k2, p5, k1] across, k1, sel s.
Row 8: sel s, repeat [p2, k5, p1] across, p1, sel s.
Row 9: sel s, repeat [k2, p5, k1] across, k1, sel s.
