Knit toddler mittens size:
Size: Toddler (12 months and up)
Gauge: 23 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
k – knit
k2tog – knit two together
p – purl
Yo – yarn over: bring the working yarn from front to the back.
Ryo – reverse yarn over: bring the working yarn from back to the front.
pm – place marker
Toddler mittens knitting pattern:
Cast on 26 stitches.
Distribute the stitches as evenly as possible onto 3 double-pointed needles.
Join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Rounds 1-10: sel s, [k1, p1] – repeat around. The ribbing measures 3.5 cm (1.5 in).
Rounds 11-12: knit all stitches around.
Knitting left mitten:
Round 1: k6, yo, k20.
Round 2: knit all stitches around. Knit yo stitch though the back loop. (27)
Round 3: k7, yo, k20.
Round 4: knit all stitches around. Knit yo stitch though the back loop. (28)
Round 5: k8, yo, k20.
Round 6: knit all stitches around. Knit yo stitch though the back loop. (29)

Shaping top of the mitten:
Round 15: [k2tog] – repeat around. (13)

Round 17: [k2tog] – repeat around, k1. (7)
Cut the yarn, thread the tail through the remaining 7 sts, and pull tight to close the top of the mitten.
Knitting thumb gusset:
Retrieve the 7 thumb stitches from the scrap yarn and place them onto 2 double-pointed needles. Pick up 1 st on each side of the thumb opening (2 stitches total). You should now have 9 sts. Knit 10 rounds in stockinette stitch (knit every round). Begin with decreases rounds:
Round 1: [k2tog] – repeat around, k1. (5)
Cut yarn, pull tail through remaining 5 sts, and tighten to close thumb. Weave in end.
Knitting right mitten:
Round 1: k7, ryo, k19.
Round 2: knit all stitches around. Knit ryo stitch through the front loop. (27)
Round 3: k7, ryo, k20.
Round 4: knit all stitches around. Knit ryo stitch through the front loop. (28)
Round 5: k7, ryo, k21.
Round 6: knit all stitches around. Knit ryo stitch through the front loop. (29)
Round 7: k7, ryo, k22.
Round 8: knit all stitches around. Knit ryo stitch through the front loop. (30)
Round 9: k7, ryo, k23.
