Twisted Cable Knit Rib Stitch Pattern

Learn how to knit cables without using cable needle and create this beautiful stitch pattern.

Knitting materials and tools:

<> DPN 4 mm (UK 8 or US 6)

<> For this example, I was using a Medium worsted weight yarn #4

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

st(s) – stitch(es)

yo – yarn over

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.

Twisted cable knit stitch:

Cast on a multiple of 6 sts plus 2 extra stitches plus 2 selvage stitches.

Row 1(WS): sel s, *k2, [p1, yo] – 4 times – repeat from *, k2, sel s.

Row 2(RS): sel s, *p2, [drop of the needle yo st, slip next st to the right-hand needle without knitting] – repeat 4 times, after you slip all 4 stitches, pass the first two sts (from right to left), over the other 2 sts, slip those 2 sts back onto the left-hand needle, k4 – repeat from *, p2, sel s.

Row 3(WS): sel s, *k2, p4 – repeat from *, k2, sel s.

Row 4(RS): sel s, *p2, k4 – repeat from *, p2, sel s.

Repeat Rows 1-4 to form pattern.
