I selected a #5 yarn and US11 needles, a 48 stitch cast on. This left 8 rows of ribbing, 12 repeats of pattern and decreases as written making a well fitting size 8” tall that felt nice on my 22” head. I used 63 grams / approx 69 yards. The pattern is great for those who don’t like “patterned” knits like manly men. It is also reversible with well woven ends. Next knit through I will try adding 8 repeats for a slouch hat. Easy fast pattern (two hours for me) suitable for first time hat knitters.

How many stitches would you cast on for a child’s hat?

How many years your child? Usually children wear almost the same size as adults, the only difference could be in hat’s length.

In your decreasing rounds:
Round 2: P1, K1
Round 4 : K1, P1

Is this correct? Since we are knitting in the round, seems as though that would not make a pretty decrease. Please clarify. Thank you.

I mistakedly completed two rows of K1P1. How do you suggest I proceed? I was thinking about completing the remainder of the hat in all purl. I have about 3in completed. My yarn is such that it is difficult to detect the error. I appreciate any help.

hi. if you are shaping the crown then go on. I do not think it will be visible on the top. You just added your own touch, why not. And yes you can purl all the hat till the end
