Knitting materials and tools:
<> Circular or DPN knitting needles 8 mm (US 11/UK 0);
<> Red Heard, Super Saver (4), 100% acrylic yarn. Knit in two strands of yarn together. As an option, you can use super bulky (6) yarn in one strand. Red and white colors.
<> Crochet hook or tapestry needle.
Knit mini Santa hat size:
Size: 9*16 cm without pom pom
Gauge: 9-10 sts – 4 inches (10 cm)
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
k2tog – knit two together
st(s) – stitch(es)
Mini Santa hat knitting pattern
Knitting body of the mini Santa hat:
Using white color, cast on 20 stitches or any other number that is divisible by 4. Join to knit in the round. Place marker.
Rounds 1-13: [k2, p2] – repeat till the end of round. (9 cm)
Change yarn color from white to red.
Round 14: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 15: slip first stitch purlwise and knit all other stitches to the end of round. This technique allows to add new color without leaving a hole in your work.
Round 16-23: knit in stockinette stitch.
Shaping the crown of knit mini Santa hat:
Round 1: [k3, k2tog] – repeat 4 times. (16 stitches)
Round 2: knit in stockinette stitch
Round 3: [k2, k2tog] – repeat 4 times. (12 stitches)
Round 4-6: knit in stockinette stitch
Round 7: [k2, k2tog] – repeat 3 times. (9 stitches)
Round 8: knit in stockinette stitch
Round 9: [k1, k2tog] – repeat 3 times. (6 stitches)
Round 10: knit in stockinette stitch
Round 11: [k2tog] – repeat 3 times. (3 stitches)
Now cut the yarn leaving 10 cm tail and pull it through remaining 3 stitches by using hook or tapestry needle. Weave in ends.
