Knitting materials and tools:
Circular or double-pointed knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4). 3 mm (UK 11) for the mitten ribbing.
Yarnspirations, Bernat Premium (4) – 100% acrylic, 198 grams – 329 meters per skein. Color A – blue, Color B – white.
Hook 4 or 4.5 mm for the booties ties.
Knit no-thumb mittens size:
Size: Newborn baby – 4 months
Gauge: 18 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
k2tog – knit two together
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
Sk2p – slip, knit two together, pass over.
p – purl
Sl 1p – slip one stitch purlwise
Sl 1k – slip one stitch knitwise
p2tog – purl two together
p3tog – purl three together
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
pm – place stitch marker
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
Newborn baby striped booties knitting pattern:
Color B:
Holding two needles together, cast on 26 sts. Leave a tail – before starting to knit, leave a length of yarn (about 10–15 cm / 4–6 inches) hanging. This tail will be used later to make a final seam.
Rows 1-15: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Knit until the piece measures 4.5 cm (2 in) and knit an odd number of rows in total .
Row 16: sel s, k8. Color A: k8, turn.
Row 17: sl 1p, p7, turn.
Row 18: sl 1k, k7, turn.
Row 19: sl 1p, p7, turn.
Color B: Do not cut the yarn. Pick up Color B where it was last used (at Row 16) and continue knitting).
Row 20: sl 1k, k7, turn.
Row 21: sl 1p, p7, turn.
Row 22: sl 1k, k7, turn.
Row 23: sl 1p, p7, turn.
Color A:
Row 24: sl 1k, k7, turn.
Row 25: sl 1p, p7, turn.

Row 28: sl 1k, k7, pick up 6 sts along the side of the central piece and knit each picked-up stitch through both loops. K8, sel s. Turn.
Row 29: sel s, k22, pick up 6 sts along the other side of the central piece and purl each picked-up stitch through both loops. K8, sel s. Turn.
Rows 30-35: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Shaping the sole:
Place stitch markers as follows: 15 sts, pm, 8 sts, pm, 15 sts.
Row 1: sel s, k21, skpo, turn.
Row 2: sl 1p, k6, p2tog, turn.
Row 3: sl 1k, k6, skpo, turn.
Row 4: sl 1p, p2tog, turn.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have 16 sts on your needles, distributed as 4–8–4.

Cut the working yarn. Thread the tail left at the beginning onto a tapestry needle, fold the sock with the right side facing you, and seam the back by inserting the needle through the front loop of the piece closest to you and then through the back loop of the opposite piece, continuing to the end. Weave in all ends.
Knitting the ties:
Using a 4 or 4.5 mm crochet hook, make a simple chain approximately 40 cm (15.8 in) long. Thread the tie through the ankle part of the bootie. Optionally, add color-matching beads to the ends and secure each end with a knot.
