Knitting materials and knitting tools:
- 16” Circular Knitting Needles or straight needles 4.5 mm (US7/UK7)
- Schaffhauser Wolle SUPERSTAR yarn (DK) – 83% Acrylic, 17% Viscose, Color # 82, 50 grams – 100 meters;
- Weight Category – DK. Quantity – 2.5 balls. !!!Knit in two strands of yarn!!! If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 90-100 m (65 yards) per 50 grams skein.
- Pom pom – black/white/purple color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16-17 cm.
Plexus flat knit hat size:
Head circumference: 53-57 cm (21-22”).
Gauge: 16 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
inc – increase: knit one stitch below
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
st(s) – stitch(es)
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
Plexus two-needles flat knit hat pattern:
Using long tail method cast on 78 stitches or any other even number.
Row 1: sel s, p1, [k1, p1] – repeat till the end, k1, sel s.
Row 2-10: repeat Row 1 or until ribbing reaches 5-6 cm.
In the next row we need to add 10 sts.

Row 12: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 13: sel s, [slip the next st as if to knit, k1, with a help of left-hand needle, pass slipped stitch over the knitted one and do not drop it of the left needle, k1 though the back loop of the slipped st that is still on your left-hand needle] – repeat till the end, sel s. Check video tutorial
Row 14: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 15: sel s, k1, [slip the next st as if to knit, k1, with a help of left-hand needle, pass slipped stitch over the knitted one and do not drop it of the left needle, k1 though the back loop of the slipped st that is still on your left-hand needle] – repeat till the end, k1, sel s.
Row 16: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Repeat Rows 13-16 until hat reaches 19 cm.
Shaping flat knit hat’s crown
Row 1: sel s, [skpo, slip the next st as if to knit, k1, with a help of left-hand needle, pass slipped stitch over the knitted one and do not drop it of the left needle, k1 though the back loop of the slipped st that is still on your left-hand needle] – repeat till the end, k1] – repeat till the ends, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, [slip the next st as if to knit, k1, with a help of left-hand needle, pass slipped stitch over the knitted one and do not drop it of the left needle, k1 though the back loop of the slipped st that is still on your left-hand needle] – repeat till the end, k1, skpo] – repeat till the ends, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, [skpo] – repeat till the ends, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 7: sel s, [skpo] – repeat till the ends, sel s.
Row 8: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Cut the yarn leaving long tail (50 cm min). To seam up the hat I am going to use a Mattress Stitch. Thread the tail with a large yarn needle. Pull the tail through remaining stitches. Now line up two sides by pinching them together with right side facing out. Use stitch markers to help yourself. Make sure you have found first stitch on each side otherwise you may end up with lopsided seam.
Insert your needle underneath the two bars between sel s and next knit stitch on the right side and draw yarn through, after that insert the needle underneath the two bars between sel s and next knit stitch on the left side and draw the yarn through again. Go on seaming up picking up bars on the right and on the left sides. Weave in ends. Attach pom pom.
