Unisex ribbed knit set: slouchy knit hat and knitting scarf patterns

Knitting ribbed set with circular needles

Winter is taking over and it’s getting colder from day to day, so you should be fully equipped with warm cloth for this type of weather. We mostly knit some nice things for women and babies, and mostly ignore our lovely men. Now is the time to change the situation a bit and knit slouchy hat for men together with warm knit scarf. I hope this winter ammunition will be used and appreciated by your second half. I called these knitting set as unisex one since by changing its color you can easily get a knit hat and knit scarf for women. Enjoy this pair of knit patterns and have wonderful days before Christmas holidays!

selvage stitch  Always slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

Using long tail cast on 88 stitches, place marker and join to knit in the round. Please be careful not to twist stitches.  If you want the hat smaller or bigger just add or subtract 4, 8, 12, 16…. stitches.

Work in k2, p2 for 20-21 cm from the edge.

Shaping crown of the ribbed hat:

Round 1: *k2, p2tog, repeat from * to the end of round.

Round 2-4: *k2, p1, repeat from * to the end of round.

Round 5: *k1, p2tog [purl two together - 1 knit and 1 purl stitches from the previous round], repeat from * to the end of round.

Round 6: *k1, p1 repeat from * to the end of round.

Round 7: *k1, p3tog [purl three together – 1 purl, 1 knit, 1 purl stitches from the previous round], repeat from * to the end of round.

Cut yarn leaving 15-16 cm tail. Using hook or tapestry needle pull the yarn through remaining stitches. Weave in ends.

Knit a scarf:

For the man’s scarf I have used the same type of yearns and needle size.

I believe men like something simple and cozy at the same type. For the scarf I have chosen English Rib Stitch or also known as Fisherman’s rib.

Cast on 32 stitches.

Row 1: selvage stitch (slip the first stitch), *k1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled, repeat from * till the last stitch, selvage st (purl);

Row 2: selvage st , *k next st and yo together, yo, slip 1 st as if purled repeat from* till the last stitch, selvage st.

Repeat Row 2 until your scarf measures desired length. Bind off loosely.
