Knitting materials and knitting tools:
<> Double-pointed or circular (40 cm min) knitting needles 9 mm (US 13/UK 00).
<> Lion Brand Wool, Ease Thick & Quick – 20% wool, 80% acrylic. Color of your choice.
<> Weight Category – 6. Quantity – less than1 ball. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 60 m (65 yards) per 100 grams skein.
<> Pom pom – black/white/natural color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – from 13 to 20 cm.
Crème de la crème hat size:
Head circumference: Teen/Adult: 53-58 cm (21-23”)
Gauge: 9-10 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
p2tog – purl two together
yo – yarn over: bring the yarn to the back over the top of the right needle.
k2tog – knit two together.
Crème de la crème knit hat pattern:
Using long tail method cast on 44 stitches or any other number divisible by 4. Place marker and join to knit in the round. Rib k1, p1 for 3 rounds. If you want the ribbing to be bigger, knit 5-8 rounds.
Body of the hat:
Round 1: [p4, yo] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 2: [p2, skip next two stitches, with a tip of the right-hand needle, pick up yo stitch and slip it over two skipped stitches, k2] – repeat till the end of round.
Repeat Rounds 1-2 thirteen more times or until the hat measures 20 cm from the edge.
From this point we start shaping hat’s crown:
Round 1: [p2tog, p2, yo] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 2: [p1, skip next two stitches, with a tip of the right-hand needle, pick up yo stitch and slip it over two skipped stitches, k2] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 3: [k2tog, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 4: knit all stitches.
Round 5: [k2tog] – repeat till the end of round.
Fasten off leaving 10 cm tail. Draw through remaining stitches. Pull tail to close the top. Weave in all ends and block.
