Cozy Knit House Slippers Pattern

Cozy knit house slippers size:

Woman Size: US 6.5-7.5 (23.5- 24.5 cm). 

Gauge: 17 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette

Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:

k – knit

k2tog – knit two together

p – purl

pm – place marker

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

Slip k  – slip knitwise

Slip p  – slip purlwise

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.

k3tog – knit three together: Slip two stitches to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the two slipped stitches, pass them over the knit stitch.

Knit cozy house slippers pattern:

Cast on 48 stitches. 

Rows 1-12: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Turn. 

Knitting the instep part:

Place stitch markers as follows: 17 sts, pm, 14 sts, pm, 17 sts.

Row 1: Slip 17 sts to the right-hand needle. Attach a new tail here. You can cut the yarn and attach it at the indicated point. Or pull out the 2nd tail from the inside of the ball. K13, p1. Turn.

Row 2:  sel s, k12, sel s. Turn.

Row 3:  sel s, k12, sel s. Turn.

Row 4:  sel s, k12, sel s. Turn.

Repeat Rows 3-4 until you have 36 rows (11.5 cm/4.5 in) in total, or until the central part reaches the center of the big toenail. Cut the yarn.

Slip the previous 17 sts back onto the right-hand needle.

Knitting the sides of the slipper:

Row 1: sel s, k16, pick up 18 sts (36 rows = 18 sts)  through both loops along the right side of the instep, k14, pick up 18 sts through both loops along the left side of the instep, k16, sel s. Turn. (84)

Rows 2-10: sel s, k82, sel s.  Cut the yarn.

Knitting the sole part:

Place stitch markers as follows: 35 sts, pm, 14 sts, pm, 35 sts.

Slip 35 sts to the right-hand needle. Attach the yarn.

Row 1 (RS): k13, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Remove stitch markers. Turn.

Row 2 (WS): slip p, k12, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 3 (RS): slip k, k12, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 4 (WS): slip p, k12, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn. 

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until 28 stitches remain on the needles. (7-14-7)

Knitting the heel part:

Row 1 (RS): slip k, k10, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 2 (WS): slip p, k9, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn. 

Row 3 (RS): slip k, k8, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 4 (WS): slip p, k7, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 5 (RS): slip k, k6, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 6 (WS): slip p, k5, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 7 (RS): slip k, k4, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 8 (WS): slip p, k3, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 9 (RS): slip k, k2, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 10 (WS): slip p, k1, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 11 (RS): slip k, k2tog, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 12 (WS): slip p, k1, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 13 (RS): slip k, k1, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and knit it. Turn.

Row 14 (WS): slip p, k1, slip next 2 sts to the right-hand needle, slip the first stitch over the second one, return the remaining st to the left-hand needle, and purl it.  Turn.

Row 13 (RS): k3tog. Cut the yarn leaving a 30 cm tail.

Using a yarn needle, seam the back of the heel: insert the needle from front to back under both loops of the sel s on the far side, then from back to front under the corresponding stitch on the near side. Repeat along the seam.

Adding a Crochet Edging Around the Ankle Opening: Using a 3 mm crochet hook, work 2 rounds of single crochet around the ankle opening, working 1 single crochet in each stitch. Weave in all ends.

Repeat the entire process for the second slipper.
