Body of the pumpkin hat

Shaping the pumkin hat’s crown
On the last round, do not purl the last purl stitch. The beginning of the round will shift back by one stitch. Place the stitch marker at the new beginning of the round and remove the marker from the previous position.
Divide all stitches into 6 equal sections and place stitch markers to mark each section, if needed.
Round 1: [(p1,k1) – repeat 6 times, k2tog] – around. (78)
Round 2: [(p1, k1) – repeat 5 times, p1, k2] – around . (78)
Note: On each even-numbered row, knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches.
Round 3: [(p1,k1) – repeat 5 times, p1, k2tog] – around. (72)
Round 4: [p1, k1] – around. (72)

Round 5: [(p1,k1) – repeat 5 times, k2tog] – around. (66)
Round 6: [(p1, k1) – repeat 4 times, p1, k2] – around . (66)
Round 7: [(p1,k1) – repeat 4 times, p1, k2tog] – around. (60)
Round 8: [p1, k1] – around. (60)
Continue repeating the decrease pattern in the same manner until only 6 sts remain on the needles.
You can stop knitting at this point and close the crown. To create the pumpkin stem imitation, I will knit 4-5 more rounds in stockinette stitch.
Cut the yarn, leaving a 20 cm tail. Using a yarn needle, thread the yarn through all remaining 6 stitches and pull tight to close the crown. Weave in the ends. Wash and shape the hat as needed.
