Common abbreviations of knit stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

k2togb – knit two together through the back loop

st(s) – stitch(es)

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

Stretchy (elastic) stitch knitting pattern:

Cast on any odd number, plus 2 selvage stitches.

Row 1: sel s, k1, [insert the right-hand needle between new 1^st and 2^nd stitches, yarn over and draw up a loop, k2togb] – repeat till the end, sel s.

Repeat Row 1 to form the pattern.
