Have you already tried knitting the mint long fingerless gloves? Many of you found it useful during cold and busy days when you need to take a long drive, grab something or simply feel comfortable doing your daily activities. Not to mention that fingerless gloves is a wonderful accessory that makes each woman look elegant and sophisticated. Having this in mind I have created a long version of cable mittens made with beautiful mustard color yarn. The main pattern is absolutely the same unless you want to change its length. Let’s get to it and knit together your new pair of long cable mittens.

Knitting materials and tools:

<> 5 Double Pointed Knitting Needles 3 mm (UK 11/ US 3) for ribbing part and 3.5 mm (US 4) for main part. You can also use Circular Knitting Needles and magic loop technique to knit in the round;

<> Alize Lanagold Classic – 49% wool, 51% acrylic. Mustard color: 100 grams -240 m per skein – in total less than 1 ball;

Knit long cable mittens size:

Wrist size 16-20 сm

Length – 30 cm

Gauge:   20 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette

Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

k2tog – knit two together

yoL – yarn over left: Lay the working yarn over the right needle from back to front. In the next round knit it in a way to avoid hole.

yoR – yarn over right: Bring the yarn between needles and lay it over to right needle from front to back. In the next round knit it in a way to avoid hole.

Cable 6 Back (C6B): Slip 6 knit stitches to the extra needle and hold in back of work, k6 from the left hand needle, k6 from the extra needle.

Cable 6 Front (C6F): Slip 6 knit stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k6 from the left hand needle, k6 from the extra needle.

skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.

Knitting the cuff of long cable mitten:

Using 3 mm DPN cast on 40 stitches and redistribute them between needles. Rib k1, p1 for 1.5 cm or about 5-6 rounds.

Knitting the body of long cable mitten:

Switch to the 3.5 mm knitting needles.

Round 1-6: p1, k18, p1, k20.

Round 7: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k20.

Round 8-12: p1, k18, p1, k20.

Round 13: p1, k6, C6B, p1, k20.

Round 14-18: p1, k18, p1, k20.

Round 19: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k20.

Round 20-24: p1, k18, p1, k20.

Round 25: p1, k6, C6B, p1, k16, yoL, k4.

Round 26: p1, k18, p1, k21.

Round 27: p1, k18, p1, k17, yoL, k4.

Round 28: p1, k18, p1, k22.

Round 29: p1, k18, p1, k18, yoL, k4.

Round 30: p1, k18, p1, k23.

Round 31: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k19, yoL, k4.

Round 32: p1, k18, p1, k24.

Round 33: p1, k18, p1, k20, yoL, k4.

Round 34: p1, k18, p1, k25.

Round 35: p1, k18, p1, k21, yoL, k4.

Round 36: p1, k18, p1, k26.

Round 37: p1, k6, C6B, p1, k22, yoL, k4.

Round 45: p1, k18, p1, k26, yoL, k4.

Round 46: p1, k18, p1, k31.

Round 47: p1, k18, p1, k27, yoL, k4.

Round 48: p1, k18, p1, k32.

Round 49: p1, k6, C6B, p1, k32.

Round 50: p1, k18, p1, k18, place next 10 stitches on scrap yarn, k4.

Round 51: p1, k18, p1, k17, k2tog, k3.

Round 52: p1, k18, p1, k17, k2tog, k2.

Round 53: p1, k18, p1, k17, k2tog, k1.

Round 54: p1, k18, p1, k19.

Round 55: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k19.

Round 56-60: p1, k18, p1, k19.

Round 61: p1, k6, C6B, p1, k18.

Round 62-66: p1, k18, p1, k19.

Round 67: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k19. If you see that the length of the mitten is shorter than you expected, repeat Rounds 56-61 once more before decreasing.

Round 68: p1, scpo, k14, k2tog, p1, scpo, k15, k2tog.

Round 69: p1, scpo, k12, k2tog, p1, scpo, k13, k2tog.

Round 70: p1, scpo, k10, k2tog, p1, scpo, k11, k2tog.

Round 71: p1, scpo, k8, k2tog, p1, scpo, k9, k2tog.

Round 72: p1, scpo, k6, k2tog, p1, scpo, k7, k2tog.

Round 73: scpo, k2, C2B, k2tog, scpo, k5, k2tog.

Round 74: scpo, k4, k2tog, scpo, k3, k2tog.

Round 75: k2tog till the end of the round, k1.

Cut the yarn and pass it through remaining stitches, cinch down and weave in ends.

Knitting gusset section of long cable mitten:

Using 3.5 mm DPN, pick up 10 stitches from holder and pick up 4 additional stitches from the hand. Knit every round until thumb measures about 4 cm (1.5”) or until it reaches the tip of your thumb.

Start decreasing rounds.

Round 1: k2, k2tog, k3, k2tog k3, k2tog.

Round 2: k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k2, k2tog.

Round 3: k2tog, k1 k2tog, k1, k2tog.

Cut the yarn and pull it through remaining stitches. Turn the mitten inside out and weave in all ends.

Knitting right long cable mitten

The main idea of the knitting right mitten is the same. I will only point the rounds with some distinctions.

Round 7:  p1, k6, C6B, p1, k20.

Round 13: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k20. Continue alternating C6B and C6F to get symmetrically viewed mittens.

Round 25: p1, C6F, k6, p1, k4, yoR, k16. Continue all other rounds with yoR.
