Knitting materials and tools:
<> Double-pointed or circular knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4) for the ribbing and 4 mm (US 6 /UK 8) for the main part. If you find yourself as a tight knitter switch for 4.5 mm (US 7 /UK 7) for the main part.
<> Marks & Katterns, Dream (for the ribbing) – 50% Acrylic, 19% polyamide, 18% viscose, 13% angora, net weight: 50 grams – 100 meters per skein. Gazzal, XL Baby (for the main part) – 40% Acrylic, 40% merino, 20% Cashmere, net weight: 50 grams – 100 meters per skein.
<> Weight Category – 4 (Aran). If you have difficulty finding the aforementioned brand of yarn, use any yarn that has about 200 meters per 100 grams ball.
Newborn knit cable beanie size:
Head circumference: 36-40 cm
Gauge: 17 -18 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
Cable 3 Front (C3F) – Slip 3 stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k3 from the left-hand needle, k3 from the extra needle.
Inc – increase
K2tog – knit two together

Newborn cable beanie knitting pattern:
Cast on
Using smaller size knitting needles, cast on 66 stitches. Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round. Rib k1, p1 for 8 rounds or until the piece measures 3 cm.
Knitting the body of newborn cable beanie:
Switch to bigger size knitting needles. Change yarn color if needed.
In the next round, we will add 15 more stitches to get in total 81 sts. Get the final number multiple of 9.
Round 1: [k4, inc, k4, inc, k5, inc] – repeat 5 times, k1. (81 sts)
If you changed the yarn color as I did, I suggest slipping the first stitch of Round 2 and do not knit it. In this way, we will get rid of the jog at the beginning of Round 2. Skip this step if you knit with a single color.
Rounds 2-5: [k6, p3] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 6: [C3F, p3] – repeat till the end of the round.
Rounds 7 -11: [k6, p3] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 12: [C3F, p3] – repeat till the end of the round.
Repeat Rounds 7-12 two more times. After that Repeat Rounds 7, 8 and 9. The hat measures now 13 -13.5 cm.
Shaping the crown of newborn cable beanie:
Round 1: [k5, k2tog, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 2: [k6, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 3: [Slip 3 knit stitches to the cable needle and hold in front of the work, k2tog, k1 from the left-hand needle, k2tog, k1 from the cable needle, p2] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 4: [k4, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 5: [k3, k2tog, p1] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 6: [k4, p1] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 7: [k2tog, k2tog, p1] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 8: [k2, p1] – repeat till the end of the round.
Break yarn and leave 10-15 cm tail. Thread the end through the remaining stitches and fasten securely. Weave in all ends.
Optionally add a pom pom.
