Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
st(s) – stitch(es)
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
Diamond knit stitch instructions:
Cast on a multiple of 4 sts, plus 2 selvage stitches.
Row 0: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s. I call this Row zero because we are not going to repeat it after.
Row 1: sel s, *bring the working yarn in front and slip the next 3 stitches to the right-hand needle (do not pull the working yarn), k1 – repeat from *, sel s.
Row 2: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 3: Repeat Row 1.
Row 4: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, *k1, insert the needle underneath two bars that were formed in Rows 1 and 3, knit the next stitch and pull the yarn back underneath bars, k2 – repeat from *, sel s.
Row 6: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 7: sel s, k2, *bring the working yarn in front and slip the next 3 stitches to the right-hand needle (do not pull the working yarn), k1 – repeat from * until you have 3 stitches, bring the working yarn in front and slip the next 2 stitches to the right-hand needle, sel s.
Row 8: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 9: repeat Row 7.
Row 10: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Row 11: sel s, k2, *k1, insert the needle underneath two bars that were formed in Rows 1 and 3, knit the next stitch and pull the yarn back underneath bars, k2 – repeat from * until you have 3 stitches, k1, insert the needle underneath two bars that were formed in Rows 7 and 9, knit the next stitch and pull the yarn back underneath bars, sel s.
Row 12: sel, s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Repeat Rows 1-12 to form a pattern.

when slippong a stitch, it doesnt say if it needs to be slipped pw or kw.

Thank you for this pattern description. I’m trying to learn new stitch patterns that use drop downs to previous rows and I’ve been struggling mightily to make sense of the instructions. Yours is written so clearly, I am able to visualize it easily. After learning this pattern I’m sure it will make other patterns much clearer as well.
I do have one question. When slipping multiple stitches is it all together or individually?

Hi Jen. Thank you for leaving the comment. When you slip, just slip stitches one by one from LHN to the RHN. Please check the video tutorial, it might help a lot.
