Sunnyside Fisherman’s Rib Cable Knit Hat Pattern

reversible fisherman's rib cable knit hat

For people who loves the sun and all shades of yellow I decided to knit a hat featuring new cable styles using golden yarn and a pair of needles. I know that knitting a cable hat in the middle of the spring might not be relevant for many, but since I love hat patterns I’m ready to try a new idea each time I have a chance. It also helps me relax, relieve daily stress and stay on the sunny side of life. Take a look at my photos of the hat and if you find them appealing, let’s jump to the pattern and get it done!

Knitting materials and knitting tools:

<> 5 Double Pointed Knitting Needles 3.25 mm (UK 10 or US 3) and 4 mm (UK 8 or US 6). You can also use 16” Circular Knitting Needles and magic loop technique to knit in the round;

<> Gazzal (baby wool) Medium 40% Lana Merino, 20% Cashmere Pa, 40% acrylic. Yellow color: 50 grams -100 m per skein – in total 3 balls;

<> For the total beginner I do recommend using counter to follow the whole process.

Knit fisherman’s rib cable hat size:

Adult: 53-56 cm

Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches/10 cm (2 cables)

I have been looking at the pattern for the Sunnyside Fisherman’s Rib hat and can’t make sense of the pattern of the pattern after Round 10. Round 11-16 says to repeat rounds 10-11 but don’t know what row 11 is. It seems to be missing the information for round 11.

hello again i was trying to say for example row 7 is c6f ( k1b,p1 6 times) if i were to follow c6f Slip 6 stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k1b, p1, k1b, p1, k1b, p1 from the left hand needle, k1b, p1, k1b, p1, k1b, p1 from the extra needle. then do (k1b,p1 6 times) because it needs the beanie to stretch. Would this be correct? Do i knit 18 sts for the whole row ty again

hi, yes correct. first cable C6F then ( k1b,p1 6 times), but it total 24 stitches, not 18. Repeat those 24 stitches to the end of round

WWhen I was setting up row 7 with markers (I am new to knitting cables) I ended up with 6 extra stitches at the end of the row. I placed a marker at 6 stitches for c6f, 6 stitches, then marker at 12 stitches, repeated 4 times. Had 6 stitches left over at end of row.
As I said I am new to working cables so I must be missing something. Do you have a video demonstrating row 7.

Hi Becky. This hat is a little bit challenging for beginners but I am sure you can do it. I am planning to make a video tutorial for this hat as I get many questions. Seems you are doing everything right. Could you please count how many stitches do you have at the ends of Round 6. After that we can understand where was the mistake done.

Was hoping that this lovely pattern was knitted flat – on two needles. It appears to be knitted in the round. Do ytou have this pattern knitted on only 2 needles.

Hi Jenny. No I dont have. But you can check this scarf pattern and understand the main idea how to knit brioche cables in rows and knit the same cable hat in rows. https://crazyhands.net/sunnyside-cable-scarf-pattern/
