Knitting materials and tools:
Circular (40 cm) or double-pointed knitting needles 4 mm (US 6/UK 8). Use larger knitting needles if you knit tightly or if you want to achieve a slightly larger size. Switch to double-pointed needles when shaping the crown.

Knit & purl hat size for men:
Head circumference: Teen/Adult: 53-57 cm (21-22”)
Gauge: 17-18 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Knit & purl hat for men pattern:
Cast on 80 sts or any other number multiple of 8. Join to knit in rounds.
Round 1: [p2, k2] – repeat around.
Repeat Round 1 until the ribbing measures 13-14 cm.
Knitting body of the hat:
Round 1: [p2, k6] – repeat around.
Round 2: [p2, k2] – repeat around.
Round 3: [p2, k6] – repeat around.
Round 4: [p2, k2] – repeat around.
Round 5: [p2, k6] – repeat around.
Round 6: [p2, k2] – repeat around.
Round 7: [p2, k6] – repeat around.
Round 8: purl all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-8 three more times. Then, repeat Rounds 1-3. At this point, the hat should measure 20 cm.

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 10-15 cm. Using a crochet hook or yarn needle, weave the tail through the last stitches and pull it tight to close the opening. Secure by weaving in any loose ends.
