Knitting materials and tools:
Circular or double-pointed knitting needles 5 mm (US 8/UK 6). For the larger size, use 5.5 or 6 mm knitting needles.
Typhon, Pinguin – 60% acrylic, 20% – mohair, 20% wool. 50 grams – 50 meters.
Weight Category – Chunky. Quantity – 75-80 grams. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 100 m (110 yards) per 100 grams skein.
Reversible chunky knit hat size:
Head circumference: Teen/Adult: 53-57 cm (21-22”)
Gauge: 12 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
k2tog – knit two together
p – purl
Reversible chunky hat knitting pattern:
Knitting the body of a reversible hat
Cast on 50 sts.
Rounds 1-3: knit all stitches around.
Rounds 4-8: purl all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-8 four more times or until the hat measures 21 cm (unstretched). Finish knitting the body of the hat so that Round 8 is your last round before starting the next section in stockinette stitch.
Shaping the crown of a chunky knit hat
Round 1: [k1, k2tog] – repeat around, k2.
Round 2: knit all stitches around.
Round 3: [k1, k2tog] – repeat around, k1.
Round 4: knit all stitches around.
Round 5: [k2tog] – repeat around.
Trim the yarn, leaving a 10-15 cm tail. Using a crochet hook or tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the opening. Finish by weaving in the ends.
