Knitting materials and tools:
Circular and double-pointed knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4).
Sirdar, Pure Cotton – 100% cotton. Color of your choice.
Weight Category – DK. Quantity – 60 grams. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 170 m (185 yards) per 100 grams skein.
Summer knit bucket hat size:
Head circumference: Child – 3/4 yo: 49-50 cm (19-20”)
Gauge: 20-21 stitches = 10 cm (4 inch)
2 sts – 1 cm
50 cm * 2 = 100 sts. Reduce by 25% (to make the hat fit better)= 75 sts
The final number of stitches must be a multiple of 8. The nearest multiple of 8 to 75 is 72 stitches.
For the ruffle, double the final number of stitches: 72 * 2 = 144 stitches.

Summer bucket hat knitting pattern:
Using the long tail method, cast on 144 sts (+1 extra stitch if you are going to use an invisible join method as I did). Join to knit in the round being careful not to twist stitches. Place a stitch marker.
Knitting the ruffle of summer bucket hat:
Rounds 1-15: knit all stitches around. Knit until the ruffle part reaches 5 cm.
Round 16: [k2tog] – around. (72 sts)
Rounds 17-44: knit all stitches around. This section measures 10 cm.
Shaping the crown of summer bucket hat:
Round 1: [k7, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 2: knit all stitches around.
Round 3: [k6, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 4: knit all stitches around.
Round 5: [k5, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 6: knit all stitches around.
Round 7: [k4, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 8: knit all stitches around.
Round 9: [k3, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 10: knit all stitches around.
Round 11: [k3, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 12: knit all stitches around.

To finish the hat, trim the yarn, leaving a 10-15 cm tail. Using a crochet hook or tapestry needle, thread the yarn tail through the last 8 stitches. Pull tight to close the gap, and finally, weave in the ends.
