Knitting materials and tools:
- Circular (min 40 cm) or double pointed knitting needles, size 9 mm (US 13/UK 0).
- Lion Brand Wool, Ease Thick & Quick – 20% wool, 80% acrylic. Color of your choice. In total 120-130 grams.
- Weight Category – 6. Quantity – less than1 ball. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 60 m (65 yards) per 100 grams skein.
- Pom pom – black/white/natural color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16-17 cm.
Almond hat size:
- Head circumference: 56-57 cm (21-23”).
- Gauge: 9-10 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit,
P – purl,
P2tog – purl two together
k2tog – knit two together
Almond knit hat pattern:
Using long tail method cast on 48 stitches or any other number divisible by 4 (for example 44 or 52 sts). Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round.
Round 1: [k3, slip next stitch holding working yarn in front] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 2: [k3, p1] – repeat till the end of round.
Repeat Rounds 1-2 seven more times or until hat’s brim measures 10 -11 cm from the edge.
Round 17: [p3, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 18: [p3, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end of round.
Repeat Rounds 17-18 until the length of the whole hat measures 27 cm, or 17 cm without brim.
From this point we start shaping hat’s crown.
Round 1: [p2tog, p1, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 2: [p2, slip the next stitch holding working yarn in back] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 3: [p2, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 4: [p2tog, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 5: [p1, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 6: [k2tog] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 7: knit all stitches.
Cut he yarn leaving 10 cm tail. Draw the tail through remaining stitches. Pull tail to close top. Weave in all ends and block.
Coming to the final part of its pattern you have at least a couple of options to decorate your hat with a pom. The first one is to make a handmade pom from black or white threads. The second one is to tie a real/faux fur pom pom.
