Twisted double-layer headband knitting pattern:
To get started with a headband we are going to use a provisional cast on method.
Using a smooth piece of scrap yarn (preferably in a contrasting color for easy identification later), crochet a chain of 85 stitches. Using knitting needles, pick up 80 stitches through the “bumps” on the back of the chain. Be sure to count your stitches once finished. Join to knit in the round. Optionally, add one extra stitch to use for the invisible join method.
Round 1: knit all stitches.
Repeat Round 1 until the piece measures 21 cm or your desired width. Keep in mind that this headband will be folded to create a double layer, so the final width will be half of the knitted piece.
Assembly: Unravel the provisional cast-on and place the live stitches onto the second pair of circular needles. To create the twist, slip 10-12 stitches from the right-hand needle to the left-hand needle (work with the second pair of circular needles).
Cut the yarn, leaving a 1–1.5 m tail. Fold the piece with the wrong sides facing each other.
Find the first stitch on the working needles and the first stitch (new one) on the second pair of needles. Use the Kitchener stitch to join the top and bottom edges seamlessly around.
