Knitting materials and knitting tools:
<> Circular (min 40 cm) or double pointed knitting needles, size 5.5 mm (US 9/UK 5) for the ribbing and size 6 mm (US 10/UK4). If you think you are a tight knitter, choose 6- and 6.5-mm knitting needles.
<> Lion Brand, Color Made Easy (5) –100% acrylic, 200 grams -226 m per skein.
<> Weight Category – Bulky. Quantity – 120-130 grams. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 100 m (110 yards) per 100 grams skein.
<> Pom pom – black/white/natural color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16-17 cm.
Crème brûlée hat size:
Head circumference: 53-58 cm (21-23”).
Gauge: 14-15 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit,
P – purl,
P2tog – purl two together
k2tog – knit two together
inc – increase: knit one stitch below
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
C3F – Cable 3 Front: Slip 3 knit stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k3 from the left-hand needle, k3 from the extra needle.
C2Fdec – Cable 2 Front: Slip 2 knit stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k2tog from the left-hand needle, k2tog from the extra needle.
Crème brûlée knit cable hat pattern:
Using 5.5 mm knitting needles and long tail method cast on 68 stitches. Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round.
Start knitting ribbing [k2, p2] until the piece reaches 13-14cm for the hat with folded brim or 5-6 cm for the hat without it.
Knitting body of the cable hat:
In the next row we need to add 7 sts to get the number that will be divisible by 15. I suggest distributing stitches evenly by placing stitch markers every 10/10/10/10/10/10/8 stitches and add 1 stitch in the middle. Check video tutorial for visual clues.
Change to 6 mm knitting needles.

Round 2-7: [k3, p3, k6, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 8: [k3, p3, C3F, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 9-15: [k3, p3, k6, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 16: [k3, p3, C3F, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Repeat Rounds 9-16 once more, after that repeat Rounds 9-11. At this point my hat measures 19-20 cm.
Shaping crown of the cable hat:
Round 1: [k3, p3, skpo, k2, k2tog, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 2: [k3, p3, k4, p3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 3: [k3, p2tog, p1, k4, p1, p2tog] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 4: [k3, p2, k4, p2] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 5: [k3, p2tog, C2Fdec, p2tog] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 6: [k3, p1, k2, p1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 7: k2tog all the way around, k1.
Cut he yarn leaving 10 cm tail. Draw the tail through remaining stitches. Pull tail to close top. Weave in all ends and block.
Coming to the final part of its pattern you have at least a couple of options to decorate your hat with a pom. The first one is to make a handmade pom from black or white threads. The second one is to tie a real/faux fur pom pom.
