Let’s knit Santa hat with double brim:
Using white color yarn, cast on 44 stitches or any other number that is divisible by 4, then join it but be careful not to twist the stitches. Place marker at the beginning of the round. Knit 28-29 rounds in stockinette stitch or until brim measures about 18-19 cm.
After that fold the brim inwards and line up the cast on round with live stitches on your needles. Now your purl sides are facing each other. To create double brim, you are going to knit through your working stitches and work through your cast on stitches. *Knit stitch from the left-hand needle and the stitch that is coming from the back together – repeat from * till the end of round.
Body of the hat:
Change yarn color from white to red.
Round 1: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 2: slip first stitch purlwise and knit all other stitches to the end of round. This technique allows to add new color without leaving a hole in your work.
Round 3-20: knit in stockinette stitch.
If you are using circular needles you can divide working stitches into 4 parts by placing stitch markers
Round 21: [k9, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Round 22-31: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 32: [k8, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Round 33-39: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 40: [k7, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Round 41-45: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 46: [k6, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.

Round 51: [k5, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.

Round 56-59: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 60: [k3, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.
