Knitting materials and tools:
Double-pointed or circular knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4) for the ribbing and 4 mm (US 6 /UK 8) for the main part. If you find yourself as a tight knitter switch for 4.5 mm (US 7 /UK 7) for the main part.
Bernat, Satin – 100% Acrylic. Net weight: 100 grams – 200 yards per skein.
Weight Category – 4. Quantity – 80 grams. If you have difficulty finding the aforementioned brand of yarn, use any medium-weight yarn.
Pom pom – black/white/blue color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16-17 cm.
Willow knit hat size for men:
Head circumference: 53-57 cm (21-22”).
Gauge: 16 -17 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch, and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
Cable 2 Back (C2B) – Slip 2 stitches to the extra needle and hold in the back of work, k2 from the left-hand needle, k2 from the extra needle.
Cable 2 Front (C2F) – Slip 2 stitches into the extra needle and hold in front of work, k2 from the left-hand needle, k2 from the extra needle.
K2tog – knit two together
P2tog – purl two together

K3tog – knit three together – Slip the next two stitches to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into two slipped stitches, pass them over the knit stitch and it’s done.
Willow hat knitting pattern for men:
Using smaller size knitting needles, cast on 88 stitches or any other number that is divisible by 4. Pay attention that the main stitch pattern must be multiple of 13. We are going to add more stitches after the ribbing part. Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round. Rib k2, p2 until the piece measures 13-14 cm.
Switch to bigger size knitting needles.
In the next round, we will add 3 more stitches to get in total 91 sts. Get the final number multiple of 13. Please use any methods you know. In my case, I am going to knit one stitch from the previous round. Go on ribbing k2, and p2 in this round.
Round 1: [p2, k2, p2, k1, p2, k2, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 2: knit all stitches around.
Round 3: [p2, k2, p2, k1, p2, k2, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 4: knit all stitches around.
Round 5: [p2, k2, p2, k1, p2, k2, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 6: knit all stitches around.
Round 7: [p2, k2, p2, k1, p2, k2, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 8: knit all stitches around.
Round 9: [p2, C2F, k1, C2B, p2]– repeat till the end of the round.
Round 10: knit all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-10 until the hat reaches 20 cm.
I repeated Rounds 1-10 in total 4 times.
Shaping the crown of willow knit hat:
Round 1: [p4, k1, k3tog, k1, p4] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 2: [k4, k3tog, k4] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 3: [p2, p2tog, k1, p2tog, p2] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 4: [k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 5: [p2tog, k1, p2tog] – repeat till the end of the round.
Round 6: [k3tog] – repeat till the end of the round.
Break yarn and leave 10-15 cm tail. Thread the end through the remaining stitches and fasten securely. Weave in all ends.
