Knitting materials and tools:
Double-pointed or circular knitting needles 3.25 mm or 3 mm (US 3/UK 10) for the ribbing and 3.5 mm (US 4) – for the main part.
Guobao, Knitting Wool – 100% Wool.
Weight Category – 3 (DK). Quantity: 90 grams. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 200 m (220 yards) per 100 grams skein.
Stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Men’s knit pillar hat size:
Head circumference: 54-58 cm (21-22”).
Gauge: 21 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
K2tog – knit two together
P2tog – purl two together
st(s) – stitch(es)
Men-style pillar hat knitting pattern:
Using smaller size knitting needles cast on 112 stitches (multiple of 28). Place stitch marker and join to knit in the round. Rib k2, p2 until the piece measures 5-6 cm.
Switch to bigger size knitting needles.
Rounds 1-3: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p18] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 4-6: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k14, p2] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 7-9: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p18] – repeat 4 times.
Round 10: knit all stitches around.
Rounds 11-13: [p14, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p4] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 14-16: [k10, p4, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p4] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 17-19: [p14, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p4] – repeat 4 times.
Round 20: knit all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-19 once more. At this point, the hat measures about 18 cm.
Now, begin shaping the crown.
Round 1: [k10, k2tog, k2tog, k10, k2tog, k2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Round 2: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2tog, p10, p2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 3-4: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p12] – repeat 4 times.
Round 5: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p1, (k2tog)- 5 times, p1] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 6-7: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p1, k5, p1] – repeat 4 times.
Round 8: [ k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2tog, p3, p2tog] – repeat 4 times.
Rounds 9-10: [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p5] – repeat 4 times.
Round 11: [k2tog, p2tog] – repeat around. At the end, there will be 1 single stitch; simply purl 1.
Break yarn and leave 10-15 cm tail. Thread end through remaining stitches and fasten securely. Weave in all ends.
Optionally attach yarn, faux or real fur pom pom.

I am a beginner knitter and I prefer straight needles over circular needles, would it be possible to get the pattern for the Knit Pillar Hat for straight needles?

Hi there I love the pattern n want to make right away for my husband but I have worsted weight yarn n don’t have time to do gauge swatch ….. can I use the needles u have used with worsted weight yarn ….. thanks please reply back …..
