Knitting materials and tools:

Circular (40 cm) or double-pointed knitting needles 4 mm (US 6/UK 8).  Use larger knitting needles if you knit tightly or if you want to achieve a slightly larger size. Switch to double-pointed needles when shaping the crown.

Red Heart, Comfort – 100% acrylic. 

Weight Category – Medium (4). Quantity – 60-70 grams.

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done

k2tog – knit two together

st(s) – stitch(es)

Knit ribbed men’s hat size:

Head circumference: Teen/Adult: 53-56 cm (21-22”) 

Gauge: 17-18 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette

Ribbed hat for men knitting pattern:

Cast on 80 sts or any other number multiple of 4. Place a stitch marker and join to knit in rounds.

Round 1: [k2, p2] – repeat around.

Repeat Round 1 until the ribbing measures 13-14 cm.

Knitting the body of a men’s ribbed hat:

Round 1: knit all stitches around.

Round 2: [ k2, p2] – repeat around. 

Repeat Rounds 1-2 until the hat measures 20 cm from the folded edge of the brim

Shaping the crown of a men’s ribbed hat:

Round 1: [k2tog, k2] – repeat around. 

Round 2: [k1, p2] – repeat around. 

Round 3: [ k1, k2tog] – repeat around. 

Round 4:  [k1, p1] – repeat around. 

Round 5: [skpo] – repeat around. 

Cut the yarn, leaving a 10-15 cm tail. Use a crochet hook or yarn needle to pass the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in any loose ends to secure.
