Knitting materials and tools:
Circular (40 cm) and double-pointed knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4). Switch to double-pointed needles when shaping the crown.

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done

Cast on 48 sts or any other number multiple of 6. Place a stitch marker and join to knit in rounds.
Round 1: purl all stitches around.
Round 2: knit all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until the hat measures 8 -8.5 cm (3.3 in)
Next Round: knit all stitches around. Repeat this round 6 times.
Shaping the crown of the baby beanie:
Switch to dpn.
Round 1: [k4, k2tog] – repeat 8 times
Round 2: knit all stitches around. (40)
Round 3: [ k3, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 4: knit all stitches around. (32)
Round 5: [ k2, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 6: knit all stitches around. (24)
Round 7: [ k1, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 8: knit all stitches around. (16)
Round 9: [k2tog] – repeat around. (8)
Cut the yarn, leaving a 10-15 cm tail. Use a crochet hook or yarn needle to pass the tail through the remaining 8 stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in any loose ends to secure. Decorate the hat however you like—with a button, pom-pom, or any other embellishment of your choice.
