Knit Easter Egg Pattern on Straight Needles

Knitting materials and tools:

<> Straight or DPN 4 mm (US6 / UK8)

<> Bernat, Premium (4) – 100% acrylic. Colors of your choice.

<> Yarn needle, plastic egg, thin ribbon.

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:

k – knit

k2tog – knit two together

p – purl

pfb – purl front and back loop: purl into the front and then into the back of the same stitch to make an increase

st(s) – stitch(es)

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

WS – wrong side

RS – right side

Gauge: 18-19 sts –10 cm (4 inches).

Easter egg on straight needles knitting pattern:

Cast on 12 stitches. 

Row 1 (WS): sel s, [p1, pfb] – repeat 5 times, sel s. (17)

Row 2 (RS): sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 3: sel s, [p2, pfb] – repeat 5 times, sel s. (22)

Row 4: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 5: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Row 6: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 7: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Row 8: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 9: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Row 10: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 11: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Row 12: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.

Row 13: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Row 14: sel s, [k2tog] – 10 times, sel s. (12)

Row 15: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Cut the yarn, leaving a 30 cm tail. Pull the tail through the remaining stitches. Place the plastic egg inside and sew the piece closed using the mattress stitch. Gather the stitches at the bottom of the egg and pull tight to close the hole. Attach a small ribbon loop at the top of the egg for hanging.  Weave in all ends.
