Knitting materials and tools:
Circular or straight knitting needles 8 mm (US 11/UK 0). Feel free to use 9 mm needles instead. Crochet hook 6 mm.
Lion Brand Wool, Ease Thick & Quick – 20% wool, 80% acrylic. Color of your choice.
Weight Category – 6. Quantity – 155 grams. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 60 m (65 yards) per 100 grams skein.
Knit super bulky bonnet size:
Head circumference: Teen/Adult: 53-59 cm (21-23”)
Gauge: 9-10 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
p2tog – purl two together
pm – place marker
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
Slip p – slip purlwise
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
k3tog – knit three together: Slip the first two stitches knitwise, then knit third stitch, and finally, pass two slipped stitches over the knitted stitch.
Super bulky bonnet knitting pattern:
Using the long tail method, cast on 106 sts. Cast on more stitches if you want to make the ties longer.
Knitting the ties:
Rows 1-7: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 8: bind off 28 sts, knit all other stitches, sel s.
Row 9: bind off 28 sts, purl all other stitches, sel s.
Row 10: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 11: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.
Repeat Rows 10 and 11 eight more times, or until the full height of the hat measures 17-18 cm (7 in).
Shaping hat’s crown:
Place stitch markers as follows: 18, pm, 14, pm, 18.
Row 1: sel s, k30, skpo, turn.
Row 2: slip p, p12, p2tog, turn.
Row 3: sel s, k12, skpo, turn.
Row 4: slip p, p12, p2tog, turn.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until you have 9–14–9 stitches between the stitch markers.
From this point on, rows will be marked as right side (RS) and wrong side (WS).
RS: sel s, k5, skpo, k5, skpo, turn.
WS: slip p, p11, p2tog, turn.
RS: sel s, k11, skpo, turn.
WS: slip p, p11, p2tog, turn.
RS: sel s, k4, k3tog, k4, skpo, turn.
WS: slip p, p9, p2tog, turn.
RS: sel s, k9, skpo, turn.
WS: slip p, p9, p2tog, turn.
RS: sel s, k3, k3tog, k3, skpo, turn.
WS: slip p, p7, p2tog, turn.

WS: Bind off 3 stitches, then purl the next 2 stitches together and bind off that stitch as well.
You can leave the hat as it is—just wash it and lay it flat to dry. If you’d like to prevent the bottom edge from rolling, you can crochet one row of single crochet along the edge. Check the video tutorial for detailed instructions. Weave in all ends.
