Knitting materials and tools:

Halloween pumpkin knitting pattern:
Knit body of the pumpkin:
Cast on 56 sts. Join to knit in the round. Leave a tail of at least 20 cm (8 in) – you’ll use it later to gather and close the bottom of the pumpkin.
Rounds 1-30: [k5, p2] – repeat around.
The height of the pumpkin at this moment is 10 cm (4 in).
Finish the pumpkin:
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail of 60–70 cm (24–28 in). Using a yarn needle (or hook), pull the tail through all live stitches and remove the knitting needles.
Return to the starting tail that you left at the beginning. With the yarn needle, pick up the 1st, 3rd, and 5th knit stitches, skipping the purl stitches. Repeat this for each section of the pumpkin. Pull the tail tightly to close the bottom of the pumpkin, make a knot to secure, but do not cut the yarn. Stuff the pumpkin with polyester fiberfill, then use the top tail to close the opening at the top.
To shape the pumpkin sections, pass the tail along each purl channel. Insert the needle through the center from bottom to top, pulling the yarn tightly to define each section. Repeat the process until all sections are formed.
Knit pumpkin stem:
Chain 3 or 4 (leave a short tail).
Knit an i-cord about 3–3.5 cm (1¼ in) long.
Bind off all stitches and pull the tail through the center of the i-cord so that you have two tails in total. Using both tails, thread them through the center of the pumpkin from top to bottom, and tie them securely to the tail that wasn’t cut earlier. Weave in all ends.
