Knitting materials and tools:
Straight or Circular Knitting Needles 3.5 mm (US 4)
Caron, Simply Soft (4) – 100% Acrylic. 2 colors: Color A – beige, Color B – green.
Weight Category – Medium.
Yarn or tapestry needle, stitch markers.
Size of flat knit baby socks:
Size: 0-4 months
Sole length: 10 cm (no other calculation needed)
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
k2tog – knit two together
st(s) – stitch(es)
WS – wrong side
RS – right side
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, and knit the last stitch.

Flat striped baby socks knitting pattern:
MAKE TWO (Baby size).
Using Color A cast on 30 sts.
Rows 1-7: sel s, [k1, p1] – repeat till the end, sel s. Or rib until the piece reaches 2.5-3 cm. Work a total of an odd number of rows.
Switch to Color B. In the row immediately following the color change, slip the first selvage stitch and then introduce the new yarn color. Hold off on cutting the yarn until I give further instructions.
Rows 8-9: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A. When picking up the new color yarn, make sure to pull it to the back of your work, on the wrong side of the sock.
Rows 10-13: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 14-15: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A.
Rows 16-19: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 20-21: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A.
Rows 22-25: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 26-27: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Cut Color B.
Follow the next steps for calculating the heel:
30 sts /2 = 15 sts.
15 sts/2 = 7 sts.
Place stitch markers in the following order along the row: 7 sts (heel), pm, 16 sts (central part), pm, 7 sts (heel).
Switch to color A.
Row 28: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Turn.

Heel (side 1):
Rows (WS) 1,3,5,7,9: slip 1st knitwise, k5, p1. Turn.
Rows (RS) 2,4,6,8,10: sel s, k5, sel s. Turn.
Bind off all stitches. Once you have the last stitch on your needle, pick up 6 stitches along the inner edge through the back loops. Pick up only the 1st stitch through both loops. After knit all other stitches from the LHN – 23 sts. Turn.
Heel (side 2):
Rows (RS) 1,3,5,7,9: slip 1st knitwise, k5, p1. Turn.
Rows (WS) 2,4,6,8,10: sel s, k5, sel s. Turn.
Bind off all stitches. Once you have the last stitch on your needle, pick up 6 stitches along the inner edge through the front loops. Pick up only the 1st stitch through both loops. After knit all other stitches from the LHN – 23 sts. Turn.
Row 31: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Turn.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 32-33: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A.
Rows 34-37: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 38-39: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A.
Rows 40-43: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 44-45: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color A.
Rows 46-49: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Switch to Color B.
Rows 50-51: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Cut color B.
Toe:
Place stitch markers in the following order along the row: 7 sts, pm, 16 sts, pm, 7 sts.
Row 1: sel s, k4, k2tog, k2tog, k12, k2tog, k2tog, k4, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s (26 sts)
Row 3: sel s, k3, k2tog, k2tog, k10, k2tog, k2tog, k3, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s (22 sts)
Row 5: sel s, k2, k2tog, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k2tog, k2, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s (18 sts)
Row 7: sel s, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k2tog, k1, sel s.
Row 8: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s (14 sts)

Cut the yarn, leaving a 30–40 cm tail. Thread the tail through the remaining 16 stitches. Sew the sock along the edge by inserting the needle from right to left through the bumps on both the right and left sides, formed by knitting the last selvedge stitch. When you reach the heel, insert the needle into the center of the selvedge stitch and bring it out through the next one. Repeat the same step on the opposite side.
Cut the yarn and weave in ends.
