Knitting materials and tools:
<> Straight or circular needles 5 mm (US8 / UK6)
<> PAINTBOX, Simply Chunky (5) – 100% acrylic. Quantity 2.5-3 balls.
Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p– purl
st(s) – stitch(es)
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

Knit reversible chevron scarf size:
Width: 21 cm (8.3 in)
Length (3 balls): 180 cm (70 in)

Reversible chevron scarf knitting pattern:
Cast on any number multiple of 10 sts, plus 2 selvage stitches.
Cast on 32 sts.
Row 1: sel s, [p1, k2, p4, k2, p1] – repeat across, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, [k2, p2, k2, p2, k2] – repeat across, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, [k1, p2, k4, p2, k1] – repeat across, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, [p2, k2, p2, k2, p2] – repeat across, sel s.
Repeat Rows 1-4 until the scarf reaches desired length. One ball of the yarn I used makes approximately 60 cm (23.5 in) (without fringes), so estimate how many balls you need based on the length you want your scarf to be.
Bind off all stitches using the Scandinavian bind off method:
Adding Decorative Fringes (Optional)
Fringes can add a lovely finishing detail, though the scarf already looks great without them, so this step is entirely up to you.
Cut several strands of yarn about 26–27 cm (10 in) long. You may use one strand per fringe or combine two or more for a thicker look. With a crochet hook, fasten the fringes evenly across the edge, placing one in every second stitch. After attaching them all, trim the ends so they look tidy and uniform.

Hi Ann,
Following your pattern for “reversible chevron scarf” I only seem to get two right side up chevrons NOT three. I followed your written pattern – 4 row repeat – and I also watched your video. I don’t understand. I get two chevrons pointing up (the outside edges) and then one chevron pointing down (in the middle). Have I missed something? I cast on 32 stitches as instructed. I much prefer how your scarf appears (3 chevrons). Please advise.
I think it’s impossible to knit it incorrectly. Place stitch markers every 10 sts excluding 2 salvage stitches. Then repeat every section (in total 3). Knit more than 4 rows to see the stitch pattern better.
