Knitting materials and tools:
<> 16″ circular needle in size 4.5 (US/UK 7) or double-pointed knitting needles might work as well;
<> Baby merino wool – 90% wool, 10% acrylic: 100 grams -120 m per skein. Weight Category – 5. Quantity – 1.5 balls. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 120-130 m (130 yards) per 100 grams skein.
<> Pom pom – black/white/natural color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16 cm.
Poppy slouchy knit beanie size:
Length: 25 cm (10″) without pom pom.
Head circumference: 53-56 cm (21-23”).
Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit,
P – purl,
k2tog – knit two together,
s1wyif – slip stitch purlwise with yarn in front

Knitting the ribbing of slouchy beanie:
Cast on 80 stitches, join into a round (total number of stitches must be multiple of 2). Be careful not to twist stitches. Place marker if you are using circular needles. Knit k1, p1 ribbing until the piece measures 4-5 cm (or 11 rounds).
Knitting the body of slouchy beanie:
Round 1: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 2: [p1, s1wyif] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 4: [s1wyif, p1] – repeat till the end of round.
Repeat Rounds 1-4 for about 17 times or until hat measures 20-21 cm from the very edge.
Depending on how long and slouchy you want the hat to be you can increase or decrease the number of rounds of the main part.
Shaping the crown of slouchy beanie:
Round 1: [k6, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (70 stitches) Round 2: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 3: [k5, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (60 stitches) Round 4: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 5: [k4, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (50 stitches) Round 6: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 7: [k3, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (40 stitches) Round 8: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 9: [k2, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (30 stitches)
Round 10: knit in stockinette stitch.
Round 11: [k1, k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (20 stitches)
Round 12: [k2tog] – repeat 10 times. (10 stitches)
Cut yarn leaving 10 cm tail. Using hook or tapestry needle weave yarn through remaining stitches. Pull tight to close hat. Weave in all ends.
Coming to the final part of its pattern you have at least a couple of options to decorate your hat with a pom pom. The first one is to make a handmade pom from black or white threads. The second one is to tie a real/faux fur pom pom.
