Knit Ladder Stitch Pattern

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

st(s) – stitch(es)

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch

Ladder stitch knitting pattern:

Knit rib k1, p1 at the beginning if needed.

Cast on a multiple of 5 sts, plus 4 extra stitches, plus 2 selvage stitches.

Row 1: sel s, [k4, slip next stitch holding the working yarn in back] – repeat till the end, k4, sel s.

Row 2: sel s, [p4, slip next stitch holding the working yarn in front] – repeat till the end, p4, sel s.

Row 3: sel s, [p4, k1] – repeat till the end, p4, sel s,

Row 4: sel s, purl all stitches, sel s.

Repeat Rows 1-4 to form a pattern.
