Knitting materials and knitting tools:
- Circular (16’’) or double pointed knitting needles, 6 mm (US 10/UK 4). Use 6.5 mm knitting needles if you think that you are a tight knitter.
- Color Made Easy, Lion Brand –100% acrylic, 200 grams -226 m per skein.
- Weight Category – 5. Quantity – less than1 ball. If you have difficulty to find aforementioned brand of yarn, use something else that will have about 100 m (120 yards) per 110 grams skein.
- Pom pom – black/white/purple color. Material – natural fur / faux fur / yarn pom pom. Size – 15-16-17 cm.
Mermaid knit beanie size:
Head circumference: 53-57 cm (21-22”).
Gauge: 13 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
K – knit
P – purl
Pm – place marker
k2tog – knit two together
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done

Pattern of the Mermaid knit beanie:
Using long tail method, cast on 64 stitches or any number of stitches which are a multiple of 8 sts. Join in the round (being careful not to twist) and pm. Rib k1, p1 for 5 cm.
Round 1: purl all sts around.
Round 2: purl all sts around.
Round 3-7: *k6, slip next 2 sts holding working yarn in front – repeat from * till the end.
Round 8: knit all stitches around.
Round 9: purl all sts around
Round 10: purl all sts around
Round 11-15: k2, slip next 2 sts holding working yarn in front, *k6, slip next 2 sts holding working yarn in front – repeat from * till the end, k4.
Round 16: knit all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 1-16 once more and after that repeat Rounds 1-5. In my case the hat measures now 20 cm. If you did not reach desired length, I suggest you repeating firstly Rounds 1-16 and after repeat rounds 1-13.
Shaping the crown:
Round 1: *skpo, k2, k2tog, slip next 2 sts holding working yarn in front – repeat from * till the end.
Round 2: *k4, slip next 2 sts holding working yarn in front – repeat from * till the end.
Round 3: *skpo, k2tog, k2 – repeat from * till the end.
Round 4: knit all stitches around.
Round 5: [k2tog] – around.
Round 6: knit all stitches around.
Break yarn and thread through remaining stitches. Pull tight to close the crown and weave in all ends.
Optionally add yarn, faux or real fur pom pom.
