Knitting materials and tools:

<> 5 Double Pointed Knitting Needles or 16” Circular Knitting Needles 3.5 mm (US 4) for ribbing part and 4 mm (UK 8 or US 6) for the main part.

<> Super Corfou – 100% Acrylic, Color # 45, 40 grams – 95 meters.

<> Fur, faux, yarn pom pom

Torch knit hat size:

Adult: 58-60 cm.

Gauge: 15-16 sts – 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette

Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:

k – knit

p – purl

st(s) – stitch(es)

yo – yarn over

k2tog – knit two together.

p2tog – purl two together

sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.

M3 (make three) – insert the needle as if to knit, wrap the yarn around and make a knit stitch without dropping stitch of the left needle, yo, then again inset the needle as if to knit, wrap the yarn around and make a knit stitch drop the stitch of the needle.

skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.

Double brim knit hat pattern

Knitting ribbing of the hat:

Using 3.5 mm knitting needles, cast on 100 stitches or any other number that is divisible by 4.  Place marker and join yarn, then k1, p1 across all stitches. Repeat ribbing until piece reaches 16 cm.

Knitting body of the hat:

Change to 4 mm knitting needles if you want you hat to be an easy fit, other wise go on with 3.5 mm knitting needles.

Rounds 1-2: p2, k1, [p3, k1] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Round 3: p2, M3, [p3, M3] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Round 4: p2, k3, [p3, k3] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Round 4: p2, slip, k1, slip, [p3, slip, k1, slip] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Please choose any variant of how to knit round 4, as at the end there will be no big difference.

Round 5: [p1, k2tog, k1, skpo] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 6: p2, k1 [p3, k1] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Repeat Rounds 1-6 four more times, and after repeat Rounds 1 and 2.

Shaping crown of the knit hat:

Round 1: p2tog, M3, [ p1, p2tog, M3] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Round 2: p1, k3, [p2 k3] – repeat till the end of round, p1.

Round 3: [k2tog, k1, skpo] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 4: p1, k1, [p2, k1] – repeat till the end of round. Do not purl the last stitch and start knitting round 5 from this point.

Round 5: [p2tog, k1] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 6: [p1, k1] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 7: [k2tog] – repeat till the end of round.

Round 8: knit all stitches.

Round 9: [k2tog] – repeat till the end of round.

Cut the yarn leaving 10-15 cm tail. Draw the tail through the remaining stitches. Weave in ends.

Tie pom pom to hat.

What is the gauge for this pattern?
I have cast on 100 stitches but does not look big enough by far, I’m probably using a finer yarn but I’d like to carry on with this so need to know how many to cast on.

Hi, my Gauge: 15-16 sts – 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette. For this hat you will need DK yarn
