Knitting materials and tools:
Circular (40 cm) and double-pointed knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4). Switch to double-pointed needles when shaping the crown.

Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done
k2tog – knit two together
p2tog – purl two together

Knitting body of the baby beanie:
Cast on 48 (56) sts or any other number multiple of 8. Place a stitch marker and join to knit in rounds.
Rounds 1-7: [k1, p1] – repeat around. The ribbing part measures about 3-3.5 cm (1.4 in)
Round 8: knit all stitches around.
Round 9: purl all stitches around.
Repeat Rounds 8 and 9 until the hat measures 10-10.5 cm (4 in) from the edge.
Shaping the crown of the baby beanie:
Switch to dpn if needed.
Round 1: [k6, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 2: purl all stitches around.
Round 3: knit all stitches around.
Round 4: [p5, p2tog] – repeat around.
Round 5: knit all stitches around.
Round 6: purl all stitches around.
Round 7: [k4, k2tog] – repeat around.
Round 8: purl all stitches around.
Round 9: knit all stitches around.

To finish the hat, cut the yarn, leaving a tail about 15-20 cm long. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and weave it through the remaining stitches on the knitting needle. Gently pull the tail to gather the stitches tightly at the top of the hat, creating a smooth closure. Secure the tail with a knot or a few stitches to ensure it stays in place.
You can decorate the hat by adding two knitted bear ears or two yarn pom-poms for a fun touch.
